OpenShift Application Platform ROI Lab

Welcome to the OpenShift Application Platform ROI Lab hands-on lab. In this lab you will experience how Red Hat OpenShift delivers a complete application platform, going beyond container orchestration to include integrated development environments, automated Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD), secrets management, and AI-ready application delivery.

You will work with the Parasol Insurance application, a Quarkus-based app that processes customer emails using Apache Kafka and stores claims data in PostgreSQL.

What you will do:

  • Module 1: Exploring the Platform — Log into OpenShift, explore your namespaces, review the running application, and browse your source code in GitLab

  • Module 2: Your First Feature — Launch a cloud development environment, make a code change with an AI coding assistant, and watch it flow through an automated CI/CD pipeline

  • Module 3: Building Intelligent Applications — Replace a naive keyword classifier with a Large Language Model (LLM)-powered email routing service and promote it to production using a tag-based GitOps workflow

Prerequisites:

  • A modern web browser (Chrome, Firefox, or Edge)

  • Everything runs in the cloud, no local software installation required
